Vocational Excellence and #WordSkills event
In September 2024, the consortium of the “SECOVE” project took part in the World Skills 2024 conference that was held in Lyon, France, a global event celebrating the excellence of vocational education and training (VET).
As part of the 3rd Forum for Vocational Excellence, the SECOVE consortium actively engaged with other VET leaders and industry experts through a series of networking and learning opportunities.
This platform allowed SECOVE partners to demonstrate their commitment to advancing vocational training in renewable energy while supporting the EU’s initiative for excellence in VET.
As part of their contribution, SECOVE consortium members facilitated two workshops that tackled critical issues in vocational education, providing insight into both technical innovations and inclusion efforts within the VET landscape.

Workshop 1: AR/VR Adaptation for CoVEs: Immersive Training with Digital Twins
This workshop showcased cutting-edge applications of AR/VR technology in vocational training, with a focus on digital twins.
Led by SECOVE, in collaboration with the T-shore CoVE, the session demonstrated how Matterport technology could be used to create and apply digital twins in real-time, transforming traditional training methods.
Participants were introduced to the concept of digital twins, which allows immersive training environments to be built, particularly valuable in sectors like sustainable energy and offshore wind.
Highlights of the session included a live demonstration of environment recording using 360-degree cameras and an interactive group discussion to identify key training focal points in the digital twins.

Workshop 2: Inclusion in Technical VET: How to Attract More Girls
This workshop addressed a pressing issue in vocational education—gender disparity in technical fields.
Co-organised by SECOVE and the INVEStech project (focused on ICT), the session explored strategies for attracting more girls into technical VET specialisations, discussing common stereotypes, barriers, and policies that can be implemented to foster inclusivity.
The workshop began with an introduction to SECOVE and INVEStech’s efforts in promoting gender inclusion in technical fields.
Participants were then engaged in group discussions, sharing insights on the challenges girls face in choosing technical VET qualifications.
The workshop concluded with proposals for practical measures VET institutions can adopt to improve gender balance, including mentorship programs and outreach initiatives.

Both workshops underscored SECOVE’s commitment to fostering both technological innovation and inclusivity in the VET landscape.
Through their participation in World Skills 2024, SECOVE further solidified their role in shaping the future of vocational training in Europe’s sustainable energy sector.
